Keeping It Real

When I ventured into network marketing almost 20 years ago, it was because I wanted to change my life or better said, I decided I was going to change my life! I wasn’t quite sure where to begin so I went to the most successful person I knew in the industry and I asked him for his two best tips that he could give me for me to create the success I was looking for. I’ll save the second tip for another article but this was tip number one. “Work on Yourself First”.  I had no idea what he was talking about at the time and then it hit me.  For me to attract people into my business, they had to want what I had but the truth was, I didn’t even want what I had so how would I expect anyone to follow me.  I was dead broke, a chain smoker of more than 30 years, and I was living in an apartment in central Florida. Oh, and did I mention I was 50 years old and working 60 hours a week in a tile marble and granite showroom? This was exactly where I was when it all began.  What I knew was that I wanted it and what I also knew was that I had no idea how to get it so I went searching for the answers.

Working on myself was a journey and harder than I ever imagined but where I started was to quit smoking.  I figured if I’m going to be out there representing a nutritional company I surely couldn’t do that as a smoker.  Getting rid of the cigarettes was the first conscious decision I made to begin my journey of working on me.  It was one of the hardest things I ever did but I wanted to change my life so badly and I knew this was my first step.  What I didn’t anticipate was the 50 lbs. that followed.  The lesson I learned from that was to quit beating myself up for the weight I put on and celebrate the victory of quitting smoking.  One thing at a time and one day at a time I began to make small changes that turned into victories and soon I began to believe that anything was possible.

It’s important for me to share this and be real and honest because so many people out there think that they need a big education, experience in the industry and a massive skill set to succeed.  Well the truth is, I had none of those but what I did have was a core desire that ran so deep that it drove me to begin working on me.  It didn’t take me long to figure out that what held me back for most of my life was what was between my ears.

What is holding you back? My advice to you is the same advice I got “work On Yourself First”. You Got This!!!
